On Tuesday 15th August, we travelled to a local venue in the North East of England to deliver our CPD Certified – Introduction to the Protection of Cultural Venues Training. This was delivered to a known client of Trident Manor Training Academy who wanted to train their new members of invigilation staff on a programme we have delivered for this venue in the past.
When taking on the role of an invigilator at a cultural venue, there are several skills that can help to successfully identify any potential threats to the space they are operating. However, without overcomplicating it, this can all come down to good customer service. It’s as simple as that! During this programme, it is important that delegates understand the threats they may be faced with when on duty and how to effectively deter any criminal activity from taking place.
Museums, galleries, places of worship, and other cultural venues that are open to the public are highly valuable in the eyes of criminals for their monetary value, popularity, and their presence in the media if they a world-renowned. If any suspicious activity is identified, such as a person acting suspiciously, a simple “Hello, how can I help you?” can alert the potential threat that they have been noticed by staff and can deter them from carrying out any further actions. This is just one of several essential actions that can be taken with others including surveillance detection, situational awareness, and implementing operational best practices.
We have delivered Cultural Protection Training to thousands of delegates through online and in-person sessions. Through our continued social outreach to cultural venues nationwide and internationally, we recognise there are increasing global requests for the delivery of accredited programmes like this one, therefore we are happy to cater our training to all types of cultural venues who will benefit from it.
