In March, our team delivered three sessions of our Protective Operational use of Visual Surveillance Systems for a client’s CCTV operatorsfor the venue and its surrounding areas.
This training programme engaged the operators in the required legislation, understanding the different threats, surveillance techniques and operational practices to fully carry out their role as CCTV operators. For example, the venue has connections to two medical research venues which has raised the potential threat of protestors who disapprove of the activity taking place. Warning signs and key identifiers noted by the CCTV operators can prevent threats from escalating.
When delivering training, we want the delegates to feel fully engaged and find the training beneficial to their working role. Therefore, we incorporate a practical activity for each session to allow the group to demonstrate their skills and knowledge of their role.
They were given an email with the subject ‘Suspicious Woman’ from a member of the public who had seen a female walking around the venue hiding her identity and taking pictures of what appeared to be the CCTV cameras. The groups were successful in using situational awareness and recognised that, typically, this does not conform to what they perceive as normality. Due to the nature of the individual, the group were asked to inspect this individual through their own visual surveillance systems they use on a day-to-day basis. The woman was located on the CCTV system across several cameras. This was done by identifying the time frame given in the email and using descriptive details to locate the individual. Due to her actions being suspicious and out of the ordinary, the operators used their newly developed situational awareness skills discussed in our training to identify and deal with a potential threat to the venue, its staff and visitors.
We are proud to have delivered this programme and received positive feedback from all delegates. It is always rewarding to have met the needs required by our client to further enhance the existing knowledge and skills of their operations staff.
